How many times have you said it: Janice makes me feel _____ or Greg really knows how to make the team feel ______? These feelings can be positive or negative and they are directly linked to how Janice and Greg make you feel, and how you feel about them. It’s a connection.
You are sharpening your risk taking skills and I’m so excited for you! As you keep growing (and glowing…and goaling) know that establishing genuine connections are essential in building a professional image. Why? Because people can quickly recall how you made them feel versus what you said to them. It’s the stuff that sticks. Our words have promise but our actions have power.
On a recent zoom call with a colleague, I asked for her help with a business proposal. She said yes. Before ending the call, I asked her if there was anything I could do to help her. She smiled and said, “I’m just so happy to help you Raquel, and I believe in you and your work. This makes me feel good.”
Really? I just melted!!! Her words moved me, I was inspired. She reminded me of what’s good in the world. I wasn’t expecting it and I walked away feeling like a million (tax-free) bucks! Just that one phrase caused a surge of energy in my brain and a shower joy in my heart.
In five seconds or five minutes you can help transform how your clients feel. You can boost the mood of your team. In the same amount of time you can do nothing and keep getting the same results- uh… no!
